S/Y Olympiotissa Fire Incident – Anti-Pollution Works and Sea Surface Clean-Up

A fire broke out on Wednesday morning, September 2nd, 2020, on the passenger-tourist ship OLYMPIOTISSA, after being grounded in the sea area of Nea Lampsakos in the southern Gulf of Evia. OLYMPIOTISSA was found in flames, having settled on a muddy bottom about 200 meters from the coast.

The fire was completely extinguished with the assistance of the Chalkida Fire Department; however, a small amount of pollution was observed which was then successfully handled with the use of Oil Containment Booms and Oil Absorbents.

Antipollution, as a contractor of OLNE SA in terms of oil spill emergency services, arrived directly at the scene of the incident with anti-pollution equipment and technical staff, where it took all the necessary actions to deal with the pollution caused by the grounded and burned passenger-tourist ship.
